I am going to produce a series of joint drawings with my daughter. We will exchange the usual roles (for an adult – child relationship). The adult will copy the child’s drawings. Children’s drawings born of the unconscious are full of freedom, variety and true abstraction, they are free from cultural codes and images. What my daughter will draw with a brush and paint, I will repeat in a dry, meticulous and adult technique – I will outline her work with ink using tracing paper. I will learn by little bits what was done in one breath. My work embodies the typical behavior of an adult, attentive and studying, organizing, sorting out bits and pieces and thinking about every detail. These drawings are like X-rays, reflecting the internal structure, movements, layers. Things that are usually invisible in painting.
These works reflect my philosophy of upbringing and parenting. The main idea of which is: to try not to dictate my tastes and views to the child. The privilege of an adult in relation to a child is an opportunity or even an obligation to make choices for the child. Even in such a subject as a child’s drawing. My task is to follow the child in her decisions and take it seriously.
